Sleep and dream exhibition

wellcome1.gif

The latest exhibition to be held at the Wellcome collection looks at the ‘world’ of sleep. The exhibition covers the history of scientific research into why we sleep, the psychology of the dreams we encounter within sleep and modern artistic and scientific takes on the subject of dreams.

An interesting part of the exhibition is the collection paintings by Jane Gifford. Jane Gifford is a contemporary artist living in London who makes diaries, paintings, drawings and installations based upon her dreams. The series of paintins based on her dreams gives an amazing insight into a consciousness of a person you can hardly ever comprehend. It makes you realise just how private and in a way, alone you are within your dreams. However much you want to share a dream with somebody the next morning it is near impossible to express your experiences. Jane Gifford manages to bring her personal and abstract experiences to her audience in a way that portrays the essence of each hallucinatory story.
